My travel industry background includes:

Agency Owner/Manager - In 1990 I sold my contracting business and purchased Barlow Travel on 14th street. Sold Barlow Travel in 1994
Commissioned Sales Agent - I sold travel on a commission only basis for Skyplan (Barlow's new owners) for several years and then moved to a medium size multi-branch agency also on a commission basis.
Sales and Marketing Director - of a retail travel agency with multiple offices in Alberta. After several previous individuals in this position "moved on", I assumed this role on a salary basis. OMG, can you ever waste allot of money trying to get noticed and generate sales. On the other hand, you can get incredibly creative, ask me sometime about how I got a $180,000 program developed for $5,000, or how one idea saved over $20,000 for the agency.
ACTA (Association of Canadian Travel Agents) Volunteer - I was an ACTA Alberta Board member for many years, Secretary Treasurer and Alberta President. I was the first National Board Chair of the remodeled ACTA. I have participated in countless forums, committees, advisory groups, board meetings, conferences, trade shows, AGM's. meetings and conference calls. How effective these were is left to others to decide but for me, they were all a great learning experience. How things work, what works and what doesn't work has whole new meaning for me.
