Only in a dream could a place such as Isla Mujeres exist. Beautiful water, beaches, and pure relaxation makes Isla a couple's ultimate retreat. Bask in the sun or be pampered from head to toe at one of the many exclusive resorts. And see why Isla Mujeres is what dreams are made of. |
| Isla Mujeres remains one of the truly unspoiled spots in the entire country of Mexico. A short ferry ride from Cancun across the Bay of Mujeres brings you to the tranquil world of sandy beaches, rocky shores and clear turquoise water. |
|
Playa Norte, for a small town of its size, offers excellent shopping, a variety of restaurants and a fun nightlife. In addition to all that Isla Mujeres has to offer, Cancun is only a short ferry and taxi ride away. Its proximity makes Cancun a wonderful afternoon trip for a few hours of shopping and dining before returning to Isla Mujeres. There is no other place in Mexico like Isla mujeres. You will want to return to it again and again. |

| Garrafón Park, located on Punta Sur, the
islands southernmost tip, is known for its lovely reefs and spectacular cliffs
(highest elevation in the Yucatan and home to an ancient Maya temple). These cliffs and
their vantage points offer dazzling views of the island, the Caribbean and Cancún beyond.
Where the name Garrafón originated, no one really knows. The two most popular explanations are that it refers to the channel of water that divides the reef in two, the channel reminiscent of the short, thick neck of a container called a garrafón; or to the fact ships took on fuel at this point before heading for Cozumel, the fuel stored at the lighthouse in garrafones. |

ISLA GENERAL INFORMATION: How to transfer from Cancun International Airport to Isla Mujeres: You must buy a ticket for your transportation from the monopoly which operates at the Cancun International Airport. Regular taxis are not permitted to pick up passengers at the airport for transfer from the airport to hotels. There are several ticket booths in the arrivals terminal to purchase your transfer. A direct, private van/car to Puerto Juarez, the mainland port for ferries to the island, is 350 Pesos (approximately $39.00 U.S.) for up to four people and the trip takes about 25 minutes. Or, you can take a shared van for 95 Pesos (approximately $10.00 U.S.) per person. The shared van will make several stops in Cancuns Hotel Zone and take about an hour to reach Puerto Juarez. There is also a public bus which leaves from a little stand directly across from the arrivals terminal, just past the taxi and van parking area. This will take you to downtown Cancun for 40 Pesos (approximately $5.00 U.S.) per person and you can get a taxi from there to Puerto Juarez for 15 Pesos (approximately $1.75 U.S.) for up to four people. The Turican #13 bus runs along Av. Tulum to Puerto Juarez for 3 Pesos (approximately $.35) per person. Ferries to Isla Mujeres leave every half hour between 6:30 AM and 8:30 PM and take 15 minutes to cross at a cost of 35 pesos (approximately $4.00 U.S.) per person. There is one last ferry at 11:30 PM. There is a taxi stand next to the dock on the island. Just ask the driver for the name of your hotel. Or, you can walk the short distance from the dock to the hotel. One tip: change enough money into pesos to pay for your transportation. You will save, even at the relatively low exchange rates offered at the airport. Prices are also quoted in U.S. Dollars but these are always higher than the Peso price. Once on the island the exchange rate is better than in Cancun. |
